Before the leaves started to turn, I got to spend a golden sunset evening with Bekah and Andrew. I enjoyed hearing about how their relationship unfolded, the challenges they have faced as a couple, what they have done to work through those challenges - both individually and as a couple - as well as their hopes and dreams as they move forward in life.
Esther: What do you do?
Andrew: I am a firefighter and Bekah is a police officer.
Esther: Andrew is also a talented artist and muralist who has been commissioned to paint several murals. Check out his Instagram account to see some of his work.
Esther: How did you meet?
Andrew: We met when we were about 19 at church in a young adults group. I thought Bekah was fun and beautiful but we both had other people we were seeing. We stayed friends and then became long distance friends when I moved away from Virginia.

Esther: What was the moment you realized you were in love?
Andrew: I realized I loved her and wanted to marry her after visiting her again when I was about 20. I went home and wrote her a letter asking her to marry me but kept it in my safe unsure if she would ever read it.
Esther: What qualities does your mate possess that are important to you/that you admire?
Andrew: Bekah is the type of person that frustrates the hell out of you in a good way and I've told her that since the beginning. She is independent but not all women's-rightsy about it. She is a lot of fun, has a killer body, is encouraging, and supportive. It sounds cliché but she does make me better. I admire that she's a cop, that she works hard, and doesn't quit. I admire so much about her!
Andrew: My favorite date with Bekah would probably be something active. We've done a lot and I think our best times have been when we were doing something physically strenuous, like hiking.
Esther: If you could travel anywhere in the world together, where would you go?
Andrew: We've been fortunate enough to have traveled a lot together but if I'd love to we could travel somewhere new, I'd love to go to South America or Australia together.
Esther: What have you experienced as a couple that has changed you the most?
Andrew: I'm not sure if there has been any one major experience that has changed us, we have done a lot together and as individuals that has molded us and changed us to who we are. Biking across Europe was huge but equally some smaller things, like buying a house, has changed us. It's all about the risk and how you let if affect you.
Esther: What would you do if you won the lottery?
Andrew: I think if we won the lottery we would travel!
Esther: How does your mate inspire you?
Andrew: Bekah inspires me not to give up. And trust me I want to a lot sometimes. She supports my art, my ideas and pushes me to honor God with all I do. That is how she inspires me.
